At last me and my son Jake are off on our road trip to America, first stop and most important is a visit to my very special auntie & cousins in Phoenix.
The flight to Philadelphia to change over was very smooth, we had window seats & the films were ok, good enough to keep us occupied for 8 hours anyway.
When we got to Philadelphia airport, we had 2 1/2 hours to catch the connecting flight... sounds easy!!
we queued in passport control for quite a while, not realising quite how long..... Jake got his first stamp in his new adult passport :)
we got our cases into the shoot to get on the connecting flight, then went to join the queue for security checks before boarding the flight to Phoenix... the queue was very long and we only had 35 minutes left!!! loads of people around us were saying how they were going to miss there flights because of the queue, I still thought we would make it... when it came our turn, they put my hand luggage through the xray machine 3 times, which delayed us even more, we had to run like mad to the gate, we got there with 2 minutes to spare but the doors where closed on the plane and there was no way they would let us on :(
there was no point stressing as there is nothing we could do about it, they booked us on the next flight which was just 2 1/2 hours later, so it wsnt too bad, only that our luggage was on the flight we missed!!
No TV's or food on this 5 hour flight from Philadelphia to Phoenix.... when we got to Phoenix it was dark but looking out of the plane window we could see the lightening flashes as we were coming in to land. As we got lower & lower the plane was wobbling all over the place, i was starting to panic, I hate landing at the best of times but this was getting scary, we could see the wings going up and down as the pilot tried to level the plane, we had just about touched down, it looked as though the wings would touch the ground it was that wobbly, the all of a sudden we took off again, the pilot said it was too windy & landing was unsafe, so we did another lap of phoenix and came back into the airport from the opposite direction, finally touched down safely, everyone on the plane cheered, we were so relieved, i was one of those moments , I almost cried with relief .... safe at last!!!
Our luggage was safe as well, waiting for us in the lost luggage department ( I am a frequent visitor to Sky Harbor airport lost luggage department lol).
Carol, my cousin & Carl were waiting for us, I was so exited to see them, the terror of the wobbly landing soon faded away!
I was very surprised that it was actually raining in Phoenix, we were heading for sunshine... or so we thought, but its monsoon season! will have to time it better next time! Its still mad hot, but humid & cloudy.
And off we went to Chandler to see auntie Eve, she knew by this point that we were coming, we had kept it secret for months... it was was so good to see her, and she looks healthier that last year :). My other cousin Karen was there too which was a lovely surprise as I only got to see here for a bout 10 minutes last year .
And off to bed ahhhhh, not slept for 24 hours!!
